ZUG & ITS ATTRACTIONS

Switzerland as a European country has a very unique identity. On the one hand, it is best known for its financial institutions, watch making industry, fine cheeses and chocolate, and on the other hand the essence of Switzerland, is also the marvellous scenery, mountains and excellent network of public transportation.

Taking a walk around the Old Town is a perfect solution to start your travelling experience in Zug. In the Middle Ages, the town belonged in succession to the noble families of the Lenzburgs, the Kyburgs and the Habsburgs. Charming Old Town has a number of impressing historical buildings, as well as a few nice fountains and the historic centre around the Kolinplatz where local people come to enjoy their time during sunny afternoons and weekends. Additionally, there is also the promenade along the lake, which is a popular place for a stroll. You can see the famous mountains of central Switzerland from there, such as the Rigi, Pilatus, and Bürgenstock, and on a clear day even the peaks of the Bernese Alps.

Very popular for hiking and biking is also the closest mountain located by the town of Zug called Zugerberg. Every time of the year is right for the Zugerberg: in autumn the sun over the sea of fog, in winter tobogganing, cross-country skiing for adults and downhill for children: in spring and summer wonderful walks in the idyllic natural countryside and the beautiful sunsets. You can get to the top of Zugerberg using the Bergbahn, which takes only few minutes and is very spectacular, or you can hike up following one of the walking trails. There are 80 kilometres of signposted footpaths available for the tourists, what gives you wide selection to choose from. For active sportsmen and women the trendy sport, snowshoe walking, is something to look at. Shoes can be rented directly from the Restaurant Hintergeissboden on the Zugerberg or from various sports shops in town. Visitors can also enjoy the cross-country trails for both classic and skating skiing. There is even a practice slope with drag-lift for children.

Oldtown

All of these you can find in Zug, which is waiting for you to be discovered. This small town has many attractions to offer and is not only the “tax paradise” for foreign firms, but also a fantastic place for a weekend escape. Zug is an international trading place and you will find a lot of foreigners in Zug, living there. You won’t have any problems with not speaking German. The people are like the landscape of the town: you will find a mixture of the modern and the historical aspects, which make it worth a trip.

Even if you are not the person who likes to hike, in Zug you have nature on your doorstep: the numerous moraine and moorland regions are just two examples. You can discover the magic peacefully location of the town and enjoy your day by sitting on the lakeside or renting a boat or pedalo and spending the time “on the water”. Besides the culture and the nature, Zug is a modern city with nice shopping facilities such as Metalli, where you can get nearly everything that your heart might desire.
